5 Fun-filled family activities to enjoy at Snowbasin every season

Around 45 minutes from Salt Lake City, UT in the Ogden Valley is the blissfully beautiful locale of Snowbasin. This area has the perfect combination of snow, scenery, and serenity.

You may be the young adrenaline junkie who’s attracted to challenging slopes, beautiful scenic views, walking and biking or photography. Or you may be the cool, laidback family member who simply wants to experience an enjoyable and relaxing time. No matter the preference, there’s something in this ski resort community for every member of the family.

We listed several things to do in the area of Snowbasin that may or may not involve snow or skis. You may want to try these out when you visit:

Skiing and snowboarding

Man Skier Destination Properties

This is the default must-try activity if you are in Snowbasin. Dust off your ski equipment, wear your winter clothes and take to the slopes like a Winter Olympian here. Forgot to bring your gear? The Grizzly Center at the base has skis and snowboards for rent and even offers ski and snowboard lessons for both kids and adults.

After hosting the Winter Olympics in 2002, the resort remains a great source of pride in the community. There are a total of 3,000 vertical feet and 3,000 acres of skiable slopes in Snowbasin, making it a favorite winter destination for beginner, intermediate, and expert skiers alike.

Rest and relaxation

With three world-class lodges, Snowbasin is the perfect place to relax and unwind while enjoying the awe-inspiring beauty of the snow-capped mountains. Two of the lodges are located close to the rocky ridgeline of the Wasatch Mountains. The location offers a great view of the surrounding area, especially at sunset.

Craving for something scrumptious? Mouthwatering choices here include the made-to-order pizzas at Earl’s Lodge, tasty burgers and pick-me-uppers at Needles Lodge, and the fresh salads at John Paul Lodge.

Mountain biking

While other ski resorts close down for the summer, Snowbasin remains open. The area’s natural beauty shines through after the last sheets of snowmelt, making Snowbasin a winning venue for hiking and mountain biking.

There are several mountain biking trails to choose from, offering various levels of terrain challenges. Experienced bikers looking for extreme adventure may take their bike on a gondola to access the area’s extreme uphill climbs and downhill switchbacks.

Hiking

Snowbasin has three trails reserved for hikers only, each leading to the ridge crest where a spectacular view of the valley awaits. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush pine forests and aspen groves while taking in the fresh mountain air.

Revel in the views, reconnect with nature and get a great exercise out
of it as well. Trail maps are available at the Grizzly Center for your convenience.

Barbecues and concerts

Free and young

Every Sunday of summer starting this May, Snowbasin will be having the seventh season run of Blues, Brews, and BBQ. Listen to live music performed by topnotch musicians as you savor freshly grilled BBQ prepared by some of the best local pitmasters. Just pair your meats with your favorite brew and you’re off for a great time.

Kid’s Adventure Course

Little beautiful Climbing route in Utah

There is a place in Snowbasin where kids can be kids while adults can have their fun – the Kid’s Zone. Its facilities include the Spider Jump (a bungee trampoline), the Climbing Wall, and a kid’s adventure course for young ‘uns who love a challenge. There is also a nature-inspired playground and a loop trail for kids learning how to bike. Kid’s Zone is open all year round but will have extended hours on Saturdays and Sundays this summer starting June 9 up to October 7.
